The Jehovah’s Witnesses have changed their blood policy again. In the September 18, 2026 Governing Body Update #6, Jehovah’s Witnesses announced a major adjustment concerning blood components. Members are now told that accepting or donating red blood cells, white blood cells, plasma, and platelets is a matter of personal conscience. But there is an important distinction: The organization says its prohibition on whole-blood transfusions remains unchanged. So what actually changed? The question is much simpler: If a rule was presented as a requirement from God, what was the biblical basis for that rule in the first place? Jessie shares what it was like growing up with intense fear surrounding Satan, demons, Armageddon, sin, and feeling inherently unworthy. She also opens up about the pressure placed on girls and women within the Jehovah’s Witness organization, learning to distrust her own intuition, and the impact that religious conditioning had on her identity. Jehovah’s Witnesses just made one of the biggest changes to their blood transfusion policy... ever. In Governing Body Update #6, Geoffrey Jackson announced that red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, and plasma are now matters of personal conscience. Witnesses can even choose to donate blood for use in components or fractions. Whole blood transfusions are still officially prohibited (for now). But in practice, this change opens the door to the most common blood transfusions actually used in modern medicine. And that raises some serious questions... Because just six months ago, the Governing Body changed its position on the use of a patient’s own stored blood. Now, after what Geoffrey Jackson called “further prayerful consideration,” they’ve changed another major part of the blood doctrine... and this time, it's even bigger.
