I remember my parents and their friends and family always taking opportunities to say homophobic stuff, especially when schools teaching about the LGBTQ was brought up. My parents would make me skip school on IDOHOBIT day and if the school was doing an event for pride month. #transcomic #exjw

If we want to see his paradise, we’re going to have to leave some things behind.” One Man, One Woman - JW.org Taught is was Satan’s way of controlling the world and worshipping him instead of God.

This was me the week I came out. I had planned it for years I had come out to my mom, sister, and close friends but not publicly. I choose to come out and leave being a JW at the same time so I sent letters to the most gossipy families I knew and to the elders as well. 😜 #nationalcomingoutday #EXJW

When I was 16, I was just starting to figure out my sexuality, at the time I was thinking I might be a lesbian. I was also raised a Jehovah’s Witness. On their website you can find article after article talking about why you shouldn’t “give in to homosexual urges”, why it was sinful. #exjw

Panel 1 - When I was 15, my depression had gotten really bad. I couldn’t see a future where I was happy. I struggled to see myself getting older than 18. Panel 2 - I couldn’t see myself happy with some religious man, stuck as a repressed house wife. In a relationship where the husband makes the final decision, and was expected to put God above my dreams.
Panel 3 - The religion I was raised in taught about a paradise, a place where you live forever and never get sick, a place where all your passed loved ones were brought back. A heaven on Earth, that was going to happen any day now after Armageddon. Panel 4 - I used to think, “What’s the point of going on, if I’ll have a better life in Paradise?”
Panel 5 - I kept going though, For my friends and family, and the hope that things would get better. Panel 6 - But it wasn’t until I realised I was queer, “Shit I like girls” That things started to change.
Panel 7 - I could actually see a future for myself, one where I was actually happy, and my depression started to actually heal. Panel 8 - Even more so when I realised I’m trans. I can finally see myself older, living a more full life of happiness and love and connections. And I’m so proud of myself for making it this far.
