We're entering a dark period in US #accessibility. The White House home page has a bunch of links with "aria-hidden" and "tabindex=-1". This hides the links from assistive tech like screen readers & makes them unreachable with just a keyboard. Critical #WCAG compliance errors! But who can sue?

Not only do the links pictured above have critical #WCAG compliance issues... The elements for navigating through a carousel of linked images are just span elements. They have the same problems. Not reachable by keyboard or assistive technology. #Accessibility #A11y

This is doing rounds on Masto. I’ve no idea if so here, but better safe than sorry. mastodon.social/@marcedwards... APCA is no longer part of WCAG3. You can use it, but for conformance (legal, policy, etc.) reasons you will still need to follow WCAG2. It’s possible to satisfy both in most cases.

If you go to the /news page, you'll find text with contrast lower than #WCAG requirements. That is, if you can even see them. Second-level links ratio: 4.05:1 Pagination elements: 2.54:1 The pagination ones look like disabled buttons. #Accessibility #A11y
