As a blind dude, your images mean nothing to me without an alt-text description. I know it’s a pain & I have zero expectations of you using this #Accessibility tool so thoughtfully provided by #BlueSky but I appreciate every effort. It doesn’t have to be The Great Gatsby but please include me 😎

My government won’t let me drive cars, it believes being legally blind makes it “not safe”, or something. My government refuses to supply large info signs, an accurate app or clear announcements on train stations. One restriction is reasonable, the other is not. This is what #accessibility means.

RFK says he wants to protect our children from autism while his admin cuts all DEIA programs. Programs for people with disabilities. Including autism. So...RFK will protect your kids from autism but if they already have autism he'll hurt them??? Make it make sense. #stopRFK #DEIA #Accessibility

Introducing the Bluesky Altometer: altometer.atdev.pro This is an project #atproto that tracks image posts for alt text. It keeps track of the percentage of posts it has seen (since the last database reset) that are *missing* alt text. The goal here is to increase the #accessibility of Bluesky.
A screenshot of the Bluesky Altometer site. It started tracking on Oct 23, 2024. In the screenshot it had observed 18,880 images, of which 16,572 were missing alt text. This accounted for 87.8% of images missing alt text.

“…disabled people are actually less likely to drive than nondisabled people and more likely to get around by walking and rolling and taking transit. Car-heavy cities are also disproportionately dangerous for disabled folks…” @nondriver.bsky.social in @motherjones.com #Accessibility

Kinda hate that it includes me in my own starter pack but I started putting this together. If you are an artist who consistently (always, without exception) uses alt text (not just "my OC" or "Taffy being so silly!" type stuff), please let me know and I'll add you in. #Art #Artists #Accessibility

Artists Who Use Alt Text

Does what it says on the tin with no AI, no NFTs. These are artists who I never hesitate in sharing the works of because they take the time to include alt text with their work! All skill levels and experience are included, as well any visual medium 💜
