#SciArtSeptember 1: Islet Somewhere in the waves of Barents Sea, a rocky islet acts as a perch for seabirds. Puffins, guillemots, razorbills and skuas are still here, though threatened by heating oceans and spreading disease. With them sits a lonely ghost of a great auk that once roamed these seas.
A simple landscape illustration with a grey-green ocean, a dark grey rocky islet partly covered by orange lichen and a light grey overcast sky. On and around the islet are seabirds of several species, most pictured realistically in colour. The largest bird is a now-extinct great auk, depicted as a semi-translucent white ghost figure.

The #SciArtSeptember theme is #meander Anyone who has ever watched a ladybug crawling around may think they are meandering to no particular purpose but remember that not all those who wander are lost!

The #sciArtSeptember prompt is star-shaped. 🧪 My lino block print of two Pisaster ochraceus, generally known as the purple sea star, ochre sea star, or ochre starfish, on a bed of kelp, is hand-printed on 8” x 8” (20 cm x 20 cm) delicate white Japanese paper with bark inclusions. A common sea star,

Today's #SciArtSeptember theme is #star It's easy to feel alone in the universe when gazing upon a sky full of distant stars. It's good when friends rally round you...
Black and white drawing of a melancholy-looking toad perched on a rock under a starry sky with thin clouds visible. There are five tiny ghosts surrounding the toad to give it moral support.

Red River pupfish (Cyprinodon rubrofluviatilis) in #watercolor and ink for #SciArtSeptember 20 / #SundayFishSketch “Meander.” These little fish occur in the meandering, sandy-bottomed streams in the upper Red River basin of western Oklahoma and Northwest Texas, particularly in harsh environments.

A bitterling puppet, with a meander-patterned banner. Bitterlings are listed in The Fish Fauna of the Büyük Menderes River: Taxonomic and Zoogeographic Features, published in 2013. 🐟 - #SundayFishSketch + #SciArtSeptember Day 20: Meander
A photo of a fish stick puppet on a wooden table top. The fish is modelled after a European bitterling, with a primarily pink body and blue fins. It has colourful highlights throughout. The fish has a ribbon trailing from its tail featuring a red meander pattern. The puppet lies flat on the table.
