I used to go to spin class 3x/week. I hiked an Alp. I biked from Amsterdam to Rotterdam in a weekend. Today in PT my eyes welled up from pain trying to raise my right leg. I’m so grateful for the adventures I had. And the grief of feeling like they’re beyond reach now is so heavy. #NEISvoid

For those unfamiliar with the spoons example in regards to disability, here's a quick overview of "The Spoons Theory." It originated with Christine Miserandino. She was describing to a friend her experience with lupus, but it's applicable across the board with debilitating conditions and disabilities related to mental and physical health.
People with chronic conditions start off each day with a certain number of spoons. Each activity uses a spoon. For example, my shower today will use a spoon. We often run out out of spoons before we accomplish all that we need to in the day. You can't just generate spoons to accomplish more. However if I push things...I'll have less spoons tomorrow and possibly for the rest of the week. So, people with conditions that exhaust your ability to function often call themselves spoonies. If you're interested in knowing more, a search on "spoon theory" will get you there.
