An 'egregious cover-up': Dems say Howard Lutnick blatantly lied in his testimony about Epstein ties
In the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick provides closed-door testimony related to the panel’s Jeffrey Epstein investigation. Democrats answered questions after the deposition and were seemingly shocked by Lutnick allegedly lying during his testimony about visiting Epstein after he saw the 'massage tables' on the island. They call for his resignation and say this is all part of a cover-up by the administration. Rep. Suhas Subramanyam said 'stay tuned' after a reporter asked if they were going to move towards allowing video into other depositions about Epstein ties in the future. #epsteinfiles #howardlutnick #deposition

Epstein survivors sound alarm on Todd Blanche's track to become Attorney General
Republican Senator Bill Cassidy announced Friday morning his support for Todd Blanche’s confirmation to become Attorney General. The decision is effectively a deciding vote that has survivors of Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell pushing other republicans to vote against Blanche's nomination. It’s been 35 years since Jess Michaels was abused by Jeffrey Epstein, and she’s still fighting for justice. She's been going from office to office meetings with Senators about their vote to confirm Blanche, and now she’s appealing to a handful of Republicans she believes could make a difference, including Senators John Curtis, Dan Sullivan and Bernie Moreno. Outgoing Republican Senator Thom Tillis had expressed concern about Blanche, demanding a meeting for survivors, but ultimately reversed course with his vote. "It is a constant retraumatization over and over and over again because it says I'm not listening to you," Michaels told Scripps News. "If they actually read the files, they will notice that Todd Blanche is lying." ------------------------------------- Follow Scripps News on other platforms— Join our newsletter at https://bit.ly/2q1tepr Follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/scrippsnews/ Follow us on X: https://x.com/scrippsnews Follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/scrippsnews/ Follow us on TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@scrippsnews

Saskatchewan human trafficking case results in two guilty verdicts
In a landmark Saskatchewan human trafficking case, two men were found guilty of trafficking and sexual assault after a prolonged legal battle. Sohel Hadiar and Muhammad Masum exploited a Bengali woman, referred to as 'SK,' by coercing her into labor at two diners while threatening to revoke her work permit. The Crown prosecutor, Leslie Dunning, highlighted that this case sets a precedent for human trafficking prosecutions in Saskatchewan, as no prior trials had addressed this specific form of exploitation. The judge noted the complexity of 'he said-she said' scenarios and emphasized the need for trauma-informed approaches in witness testimony. 'SK' was promised employment and housing but was forced into 12-hour shifts six days a week without proper documentation. Saskatchewan MLA Doug Steele intervened by providing her with a social worker's contact, aiding her escape from the abusive situation. The verdict underscores the vulnerability of temporary foreign workers and the importance of legal protections. Both men face custody until August 14 and are prohibited from contacting the complainant. This case illustrates the intersection of labor exploitation, immigration policies, and criminal justice, prompting calls for stronger safeguards against human trafficking in employment contexts.
