Sea surface temperatures are way above average in parts of the #Arctic as of last month, particularly in the Kara Sea Basin extending to around Svalbard and the Greenland Sea. This is also found in the Hudson Bay due to their very early sea ice melt-out. Data from @noaa.gov OISSTv2.1 🌊

Breaking News! Code: y-Axis Alert! As of August 5th, global sea-surface temperatures just set a new preliminary record high of 21.20°C. This breaks the previous record high of 21.17°C set on April 24, 2024. And yes, I had to extend the y-axis to plot this.

Breaking News! Code Bonkers! As of August 3rd, Nino 3.4 has crossed 2.5°C above the 1991-2020 baseline. The Climate Casino predicted August 1st for this crossing and now has a lot of fake-bets to pay out. Was the fix in? Next up, 3.0°C by August 21st.
