Sweet, another NFG here in Whetstone Leics. Clancy's Rustic also new to me completely, albeit one I was expecting. I wasn't expecting Deep-brown Dart, the first here since 2000. Orange Sallow always nice to see, and a cracker amongst x6 Vestals. #teammoth #vc55moths

This morning I was quite satisfied with my first Merveille du Jour of the year, but then I realised a 'pearl' was not one of thevusual ones, having a terminal white bar: Loxostege sticticalis (Mugwort Pearl) which has very few county records, maybe just four in Septemver 2022 #teammoth #VC55Moths

Some of the nicer autumn moths are starting to turn up now amongst the sea of late summer brown: Autumnal Rustic and Orange Sallow both NFG, and Brown-spot Pinion NFY. OK, the latter is still brown, but it's not a yellow underwing or a Square-spot Rustic! #VC55Moths #TeamMoth

Hummingbird Hawk-moth in the garden just now - hopefully evidence of some migration for moth trapping tonight. 🤞 So fast and unpredictable in the wind, but managed to get a couple of seconds of video before it shot off again. #VC55Moths #TeamMoth

I've recorded Small Eggar a few times form larval nests in VC55, but my chances of seeing an adult were slim as they're right over in the far east/Rutland. So last year I collected a couple of larvae & I managed to rear & overwinter the pupal cocoons. The first emerged today! #vc55moths #teammoth

Not sure how I've managed to see 1100+ species of Lepidoptera in the UK and never seen Dark Spectacle before, but I've seen one now! ✔️ Also European Corn-borer last night (in fridge for photos later), and an interesting large pug kept for further investigation. #VC55Moths #TeamMoth
