The film's sweeping visuals of Mongolia and Central Asia inspired Ella to leave Moscow, venture into the Caucasus and ultimately spend decades exploring the remote corners of the Asian continent.

Seeing Pudovkin work on film sets and watching his depiction of Eastern frontiers ignited her curiosity to see these unmediated environments firsthand.

The schooner 'Soviet Kyrgyzstan' (Советская Киргизия), the first Soviet metal-hulled motor vessel, at the port of Przhevalsk (now Karakol) on Lake Issyk-Kul in 1932.

It marked a major modernisation milestone for regional shipping and heavily accelerated the growth of nearby port towns like Rybachye (now Balykchy).

The ship was constructed at the local Przhevalsk shipyard according to a design by the naval architect Kebin and completed around 1931. It had a deadweight of 420 tons and a speed of 10 knots.
