Aaaand the events of this story are already almost 11 months old. I know I'm most likely one of the lucky ones there, but yeah, overall my experience of #usimmigration has been a lot of very stressful moments capped with anticlimatically quick and easy resolutions. Here's hoping that continues.
A comic titled "Immigration is fun (5)". It opens with a drawing of the narrator (a French person with an outfit with the colors of the French flag) and her spouse (a USAmerican with an outfit with the colors of the US flag) sitting in a government waiting room which consists of a bunch of large chairs far apart for one another. Two other people are seen waiting on other chairs nearby. Next to the French person and her spouse, another person is seen reading through documents big enough to hide their face.
A narration bubble comments: "A merciful 4 months after getting married, we got summoned for the green card interview. We had to wait in one of those rooms with chairs super far apart." An arrow points to the person reading, indicating with a caption: "This time, our attorney was with us." The narration continues: "We arrived at the scheduled time and got called in after about 3 hours of waiting. The tone of the interview itself was pretty friendly."
We then see the French and USAmerican spouses sitting in front of an officer who we only see the back of. The officer says: "I saw the wedding pictures you submitted – they looked adorable! Do you have photos printed here today?" The USAmerican spouse produces a small photo album, answering: "Yes, right here!" The officer responds: "Great! Then, I'd like you guys to pick a few from different dates, and tell me more about the story and memories behind them." Both spouses respond: "Sure!" in unison.
A continuation of the comic in the previous image. The two spouses sitting at the officer's desk are now seen from more of a distance, in a shadow puppet-like manner with silhouettes blacked in. They are commenting on the pictures in a very animated and disjointed manner to the officer whose facial expression looks a bit overwhelmed. Comments include: "So this one is from a time we hanged out with my brothers!" "This one was with my grandparents!" "I helped finish the bottle of wine that night!" "This one was from the Paris Olympics!" "This is the time you learned to chant 'Allez les bleus'!" "This was right at the end of our wedding! My mother-in-law accidentally threw her flower petals right in my face!" "This was at IHop the morning after our wedding!" "My eyes are puffy 'cus we cried a lot the previous night..."
Coming from out of frame, the attorney's voice interjects: "Um... Guys? I think that's enough. This officer has a packed enough schedule as it is..." Looking embarrassed, both spouses silence themselves, while the officer, while still a bit overwhelmed, smiles sympathetically with their eyes.
A continuation of the comic in the previous images. The French and USAmerican spouses are seen sitting in front of the officer again, smiling nervously. The officer, who we only see the back of once again, declares: "Well, I think I have everything I need! You should expect a decision in the near future. I can't promise an exact date though. It could take anytime from one day to two weeks." An arrow pointing to the French spouse, who looks extra nervous, comments: "Not knowing what to expect at all."
In the final panel, a narration box opens with "Less than 24 hours later." The French and USAmerican spouses are seen checking the former's phone with an impressed facial expression. The French spouse says: "Holy shit, honey... We did it. I got my green card." The USAmerican spouse responds: "That was so fast... Do you think it's 'cus we yapped a lot?"

...Well, mostly, the main reason why it took me so long to draw this is that I'm a lazy procrastinator who takes forever to get started... This is the start of a new series of comics I'm making called "A Parisian in Cali", also available on Webtoon and Tapas! We'll see how that goes #usimmigration
A comic depicting a character wearing a hoodie with the colors of the French flag. A narration box states: "A couple months ago."
The character is thinking to herself: "Now that I've made it from France to the US and I'm in immigration limbo, I could draw comics to show what the paperwork, the processes and the culture shock are like." She then interrupts herself, thinking: "Ah, nah... Nah, wait a sec. Might be a good idea to wait until you're OUT of immigration limbo before venting. Just in case."
A final narration box explains: "US immigration fun fact #1: The government keeps track of your social media as evidence until your green card is approved."
