I'm loathe to call any of the Lonely Ship cast 'annoying'. They all get redemption, some sooner than others. I'd pick privateer captain Luc, who has such a high opinion of himself! He's clever enough to know how to snap back, and he puts that mind to work doing some bad stuff. #timetravelauthors

“You will try the Lanes?” Luc chuckled. “Then you are brave as well as beautiful, Captain. A winning combination! Perhaps we might collaborate a little closer before you depart? My colleagues and I travel the Lanes all the time and are available to offer assistance.”
“Unnecessary. If you will excuse us.”
“Such confidence. Perhaps you have already received some help? From a certain scavenger station, maybe?”
“That is not for your concern.”
“I’m afraid I must disagree, as we have some business with that station ourselves. If you have been in contact with them, perhaps taken supplies or personnel from them, that makes you our concern.”
“We have taken nothing from Candour,” Miriham said. “We did not have more than a rapid conversation with them. They appear passive and peaceful, however,” she added, leaning on her podium with a deep frown. “Tell me, Luc. What business do you have with scavengers?”
Luc’s lips twisted. She couldn’t tell if he was smiling or grimacing. She didn’t like the thought of either. “We are messengers, Miriham,” he said. “We are here to deliver a message.”
“And what message could possibly require three railguns to deliver?” she retorted.
“A very serious one. It’s very important that our message gets delivered. In fact, I think we had better come aboard and make sure there isn’t anyone on your ship who also needs to hear our very serious message. Prepare yourselves to be boarded.”
