We used to have chickens, Back in the day, For the eggs and the stories, But they didn’t all lay, They’d roam in the flowers, Sit out in the sun, Soft gentle feathers, I loved every one. #thingstowriteabout chicken

Later, in my brain the magnifying. Coffee bar scented, low seated, rattled ice glassy and the grinding grinding. I say think maybe love. Closer, closer, no before you gotta run, zoom to the word on your bit lipstick tip of your blink. Now I see it. Deluded. #inkMine #ThingsToWriteAbout

14 Nov 2025. NZ Sculpture Onshore at Devonport, and NZ’s largest outdoor art event with displays outside at a clifftop park and inside Operetu Fort Takapuna. Inside the underground portion of the fort, passages, alcoves, rooms, walls, windows, and ceilings were chock full of displays. Some of the areas, such as the one in this photo, were moody and darker. Seven large, faux-lit pillar candles are in a window frame that separates two rooms. On the floor of the room beyond, two goodly-sized clumps of thinner candles (some also faux-lit) sit, keeping their own council. Further back on the far wall are more of the larger pillar candles set in another window frame. In the upper middle/right, a jet black, heavy door is open just a crack. The inside of the door is draped with a drawing of a cross on a stained-glass window style background. The structure here is chipped and flaking, showing its age.

What is it about the near absence of light that is so alluring? There’s a temptation to stay, to watch the shadows flicker and dance on the surrounding structure. To see what remain in the dark, should the lights go out. I don’t tarry overlong and decide to move on, my pace a little faster as I leave any dark temptation behind.
