"I don't think I'm allowed to kill something because I am frightened." โ€”Nikki Giovanni ๐Ÿ’” #poem #poems #poetry
I killed a spider
Not a murderous brown recluse
Nor even a black widow
And if the truth were told this
Was only a small spider
Sort of papery spider
Who should have run
When I picked up the book
But she didn't
And she scared me
And I smashed her

I don't think
I'm allowed

To kill something

Because I am

Frightened.

The Silent Voice (1893), painted by British artist Gerald Moira (1867-1959). It's a haunting work about a voice in the lady's head, inspired by a poem written in 1833 and 1834 by Alfred, Lord Tennyson. The poem is called "The Two Voices" and deals with depression and suicide. #art #painting #poem

Somehow managing to find a small door to calm, away from hatred, deeply thankful for its moment of shelter against the perpetual storm. It is not that I hide, but stay awhile to dry out, so the rot doesn't take hold of my soul. ~LBV๐Ÿ’ฏ #poetry #poem #selfcare #photography ๐Ÿ“ท by: ofduskanddawn

Original description:
"A sunrise photo with a dark blue sky fading into a very light green, yellow and orange that meets a black treeline on the far bank of the river.

A web of pink and orange fluffy clouds seem pulled from horizon. On the left, leafless trees are dark inked lines over the color, and a damp gray rock surface leads to the bottom of the image with the river reflecting the bright colors from above on the lightly dimpled surface."
