A large rugged bluff rises out of the ocean like an alien spacecraft emerging from the water to wreak havoc on the earth.

Edits in CapCut and Lightroom.

I am not adept with adding layers or overlays in the Adobe products, but CapCut has tons of easy to apply video effects. (Seems like everyone on Reddit hates CapCut). So I added a water ripple effect which creates the reflection, then saved a frame of the video as a photo to further tweak in Lightroom.

In Lightroom, I applied a preset and further darkened the ocean and added a subtle hazy mask where the bluff emerges from the water. I decreased the overall exposure but created a mask on the bluff to keep it brighter.

In 3rd grade there was an eye exam that used overlays. The base picture was of a table. They placed a clear overlay with an apple on top. The question was, where is the apple? My answer was, over the table because it's an overlay. Original photo by @rjrock.bsky.social #PostProcess #surface #ECK

The correct answer was, on the table.

All that to say, what actually is the surface? Is it the surface of the physical photo or the surface of the subject of the photo?

I did all my edits in Canva to change the surface material.

I removed the background and made a frame of the remaining shape and then filled it to look like an eroded dune. Than I changed the sky to look like a southwest sunset.

Rock’s 10th #PostProcess challenge details

I took a stock image of a light wood grain effect panel from Google images.

I then put one on top of the other and used the double exposure effect in Snapseed with Rocks original photography. I then dropped all the colour out of both images and then exported all that into Lightroom for iPad.

This is where l went into “fiddle mode” to trying and get the image to a reliable wood colour and added detail and sharpening to mimic a wood carving effect.

Multiple free hand masks to get the various shadow effects which had me swearing a lot lol.

The idea of the edit was to see Rocks original image as though it was carved out of wood in the Native American style.

I finished the edit with a light vignette and also a simple white border frame.
