Late Saturday Apr 12 to early Sunday Apr 13 the Sun has unleashed 2 filament eruptions, south-east and south-west of the central meridian. The resulting #solarstorms are due to arrive at Earth late Tuesday Apr 15, but they are slow and we do not expect a strong geomagnetic response. (NASA/SDO 304)

We just got an X5 flare from the same active region that launched the 2 #solarstorms earlier this week, at around 20 degrees north and west of disk center. We will again need to see whether a storm was launched with coronagraphs and then evaluate its potential arrival at Earth in the upcoming days.

The source region of both #solarstorms, one from early Sunday Nov 9, and the other from early Monday Nov 10, are (as usual) complex. Judging from the main neutral line, where the +/white, and -/black magnetic fields meet, we may expect a magnetic field rotation as south-east-north (SEN) or ENW.

Nice assessment of the incoming #solarstorms, we‘ll keep an eye out tomorrow Dec 31. 3 storms erupted on the ☀️ early to late Dec 29. The latest of the 3 is most Earth directed, the first 2 more eastbound. ESA Solar Orbiter is at 0.95 au at 12 deg east and may signal whats coming a few hours earlier.

🚨Important updates about the NYE aurora event. 🚨 1. Impact timing moved from 1 UTC Dec 31 --> 15 UT Dec 31 2. 1-2 punch - Two CMEs potentially arriving midday-late UTC on Dec 31. This could cause higher geomagnetic activity. Kp 6-7 storming seems most likely, not G4 imo. #heliophysics ☀️

There are a few rather minor #solarstorms traveling to the west of Earth at the moment, and we expect only minor effects at Earth in the next few days, starting Thursday October 16. Likely only high-latitude #aurora is possible. However - the @esa.int #SolarOrbiter spacecraft observed them! 👇
