Burnham emphasized that while prosecution rates for rape remain low, the reforms are 'long overdue' and will make a 'significant difference,' but prevention efforts must also be prioritized. The Conservatives acknowledged the need to address delays but urged Labour to commit to scrapping plans to restrict jury trials. The government's 2024 manifesto included a promise to halve violence against women and girls within a decade.
