Since the minerals, liquids, and gases are well protected from chemical alteration, #quartz inclusions open a window to the past that can help scientists reconstruct the chemical and physical conditions that existed when the rock formed.
This bubble is in liquid inside of a negative crystal which is in a quartz cabochon host. In other words, a two-phase inclusion that happens to be in a negative crystal. (Photos: Wimon Manorotkul)

One again reminding you all that quartz is what preserved some of the oldest evidence of life on earth. Like the microbial filaments in this 3.2 billion year old microbial mat preserved in a silicified siltstone. Field of view is about 0.75 mm wide. #Geology #paleontology #Quartz #MinCup26

Recently, we were at the Baltic Sea and there you can find plenty of agate nodules. Agate is microcrystalline SiO2, a very dense and hard material. Mostly, it's dull grey, but it can look very striking if cut, and you can sometimes find small drusy quartz inclusions. #Quartz #MinCup26

#Quartz! It can be anywhere! It forms and thrives in all three rock types. It grows protective covers over soft minerals. There are so many varieties, colors, shapes, sizes, textures. It does fun things like create a charge if heated or stressed. Smash it and it glows! Vote #Quartz! #MinCup26
