You can thank Denny O’Neil for that, whose big contribution to the Justice League of America for his run in the late 60s was giving its members actual personalities and points of view. He set up Green Arrow and Hawkman with opposite ideologies to drive conflict within the team. #ngl

“Canon” is a fake idea nobody who actually works in comics codifies as strictly as fans. The answer is that everything happened, except for the parts that contradict whatever’s happening now. Unless you don’t want it to have happened, in which case it didn’t, unless it specifically comes up. #ngl

Daniel Warren Johnson’s Wonder Woman: Dead Earth plays with this in a really interesting way. You can also find her addressing that mission practically in the Pérez and Rucka runs. But I’d say the best modern example is Absolute Wonder Woman, where she truly does feel like a savior goddess. #ngl
Can you recommend any Wonder Woman stories that play up her original Marstonian messianic elements? The ones I know of are the original golden age run and Wonder Woman Earth One.

Nope. The shrinking of the Guardians has been established lore for decades. The reframing it to adhere to the narrative of a Johnsian emotional spectrum is new to Green Lanterns, but the idea that they diminished in stature for valuing intellect over physicality goes back a long time. #ngl
In Green Lanterns #26, Rami says that the Guardians banishing their emotions into the first power ring is what caused them to shrink. Because I can’t find any info about this online: Was this the first time the shrinkage had been explained?
