Downy Woodpeckers are small versions of the classic woodpecker body plan. They have a straight, chisel-like bill, blocky head, wide shoulders, and straight-backed posture as they lean away from tree limbs and onto their tail feathers. The bill tends to look smaller for the bird's size than in other woodpeckers.

โ€ข The blue jay, Cyanocitta cristata, belongs to Family Corvidae, the Corvids, which includes crows, ravens, jays, and magpies in North America, and jackdaws, choughs and rooks in the Old World.
โ€ข This common, large songbird is familiar to many people, with its perky crest; blue, white, and black plumage; and noisy calls. Blue Jays are known for their intelligence and complex social systems with tight family bonds. Their fondness for acorns is credited with helping spread oak trees after the last glacial period.

๐Ÿค ๐Ÿค™๐Ÿ“ฟ Why are herons such bad liars? ๐Ÿค” โ€ข Their stories are always a bit fishy.๐Ÿคช Great blue heron (Ardea herodias), on the Credit River, Mississauga, Ontario. ๐Ÿ #Birds ๐Ÿฆ‰ ๐Ÿชถ #Wildlife ๐Ÿฆ‰ #Nature ๐ŸŒฟ #Photography ๐Ÿ“ท #CanadianContent ๐Ÿ #NeuroSpicy ๐Ÿ“ฟ #Art #ElbowsUp ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ’ช
Standing on the bankside of the Credit River, a great blue heron takes in it's surroundings.

Largest of the North American herons with long legs, a sinuous neck, and thick, daggerlike bill. Head, chest, and wing plumes give a shaggy appearance. In flight, the Great Blue Heron curls its neck into a tight โ€œSโ€ shape; its wings are broad and rounded and its legs trail well beyond the tail.
The Credit River, a significant waterway in Southern Ontario, flows approximately 90 kilometers (56 miles) from its headwaters near Orangeville and Caledon, eventually emptying into Lake Ontario at Port Credit in Mississauga. It drains an area of around 1,000 square kilometers and features a watershed with diverse natural areas and faces challenges from urbanization and population growth.

It's a me! Ye old photographer critter with the beard, eyeglasses, and brown wide brim hat. Pointing thumb at the (circled green) Cormorant way out there. Bottom, a close up of the cormorant.
Double-crested cormorants are similar in size to a small goose, around 80 centimetres tall, and with a wingspan of 120 centimetres. As with all cormorants, double-crested cormorants have long necks and black feathers.

A great blue heron in the reeds on the North Creek wetland, Etobicoke - Ontario.
This tall stately heron with its subtle blue-gray plumage often stands motionless as it scans for prey or wades belly deep with long, deliberate steps.
Standing about one metre tall, the great blue heron is the largest heron in North America. This bird has greyish-blue feathers on its body, a white head with a black stripe on each side, and a long neck and legs. It has a thin, extended, yellow-orange beak and displays brighter feathers during mating season. Great blue herons have a large wingspan and can fly up to 55 kilometres per hour. During flight, they often hold their necks in an โ€œSโ€ curve.
