Rick Morton on the money here, but it goes further. Justin Gleeson was due to be announced as the eminent legal person last Mon 4 Nov. But Brereton pulled the rug on it all terrified of Scott Morrison's reaction. Scott Morrison is the unnamed minister, the 6th person in the Robodebt 6. #NACC

The head of the NACC, retired judge Paul Brereton, is incapable of leading a public service organisation of over 260 people with a very forward facing and very public role He appears either unwilling or unable to accept that he does not have the skill set required for such a vast undertaking #NACC

I wish I was making this up, but the boss of the National Anti-Corruption Commission has given a speech where he admits that he acted with "apprehended bias" during the Robodebt non-investigation. As Bernard Keane and many others argue, Brereton has to resign www.crikey.com.au/2024/11/18/p...

It would be good for Australians if Paul Brereton, the head of the #NACC, bothered reading his own legislation. That would be helpful and oooh I dunno, might be something the public expected from him in his ~$758,000 a year position

Brereton always defines corruption as typically being engaged in "for a private benefit" which is explicitly NOT what his own Act requires. They even have a clause saying: "Conduct involving a public official may be corrupt conduct even if the conduct is not for the person’s personal benefit."

And the Australian 2024 Useless Government Agency Of The Year award goes to . . . . . *drum roll* the National Anti-Corruption Commission. Yaaay!! Well done @strangerous.bsky.social for judging the #NACC the supreme winner out of a crowded field of incompetent, taxpayer-funded duds. #pfffft

After 18 months of operation and a cost of $140 million to Australians, the staggeringly incompetent NACC has concluded its top 3 major corruption investigations, and guess what? It has found no corruption. The #NACC is a failure and a national embarrassment. 👇🏽 theklaxon.com.au/nacc-fin….

Let that sink in slowly. The head of the #NACC Paul Brereton, pulled out of appointing one of Australia's best legal minds to investigate Robodebt, because Brereton was scared of the reaction of one of the people they were investigating; Scott Morrison. www.thesaturdaypaper.com.….

Exclusive: NACC dumped Gleeson over concerns for Coalition minister

Former solicitor-general Justin Gleeson’s appointment to review the NACC’s decision on robodebt was rescinded over concerns it might offend a Coalition minister who was referred for investigation.

One of the stupidest decisions on #NACC was dropping the investigation into former Commissioner Breretion because he resigned. It's almost as if the government and those associated with this agency are determined to learn nothing from past mistakes. Which means they will change nothing. #auspol

The NACC was asked to examine allegations involving a senior naval officer and lucrative military contracts, but it chose to hand the case back to Defence for investigation. www.crikey.com.au/2026/08/07/n...

The head of the NACC, Paul Brereton, may be a decent man, but he is desperately out of his depth as the head of this large, multi-faceted, public-facing, modern, public service organisation. His disastrous performance this afternoon in the Senate hearing underlines that in very clear detail. #NACC

Paul Brereton in today's #NACC public hearing: "Adding a stamp of corrupt conduct ... to conduct already exposed by the Royal Commission would add no public value. That was our thinking, or my thinking" Then how could he put out a public statement saying he wasn't involved in any decision making?

If you're wondering how the recently resigned #NACC Commissioner, Paul Brereton, spent his time in his $800,000 p.a job, at least some of it was dedicated to writing to the Inspector General about some individual called, Ronni Salt's, twitter activities. Seriously - I kid you not #auspol
