Survivors of an Oxford grooming gang have revealed that they continue to encounter men who sexually abused them, with many perpetrators still at large. While Oxford was one of the areas where the grooming gangs were active, a serious case review found no evidence that police hesitated to act due to racial concerns, unlike in cases such as Rotherham. Despite 21 men being convicted in connection with the Oxford grooming gang, survivors report that investigations have not gone far enough. Sarah, who was sexually abused and drugged from a young age, has struggled with addiction and spent time in jail. She stated, 'They've taken my life,' expressing that the sentences handed down were too lenient. Chloe, another survivor, described seeing her abusers in her local area, causing her to feel 'sick, cold' when she encounters them. Rachel, who was abused between 12 and 15, was a key witness in the first trial in 2013, which led to seven men being convicted. However, subsequent prosecutions identified over 370 victims, and Rachel noted that many perpetrators have never faced consequences. Former detective Simon Morton admitted that the police initially failed to understand the scale of the abuse and that the investigations were insufficient. He believes the abuse continues to occur in Oxford. The government has launched a national inquiry to address why vulnerable children were not protected in England and Wales, including whether attitudes toward the girls or the ethnicity of perpetrators contributed to the failures. Survivors continue to live with the trauma, with Sarah stating she has not been emotionally present for her children, and Chloe expressing fears for her daughter's safety. The BBC Panorama programme highlighted the ongoing torment faced by survivors, emphasizing that justice has not been fully served for the victims of the Oxford grooming gang.
