Christine first came to Short Creek after a flash flood killed thirteen people. She stayed. She built a nonprofit. She earned the community's trust over years. And when Bateman rose and started abusing children, she made a decision: document everything and feed it to the FBI. Tolga recorded hundreds of hours of footage that federal prosecutors called pivotal to building the case. But this episode doesn't just celebrate the hero narrative. It sits in the tension. Christine befriended women who are now in prison. She built trust with people she was secretly recording. She had her own children in the community, knowing that if her cover was blown, Bateman's network had already demonstrated willingness to kidnap children and disappear them across state lines.
