There’s drier than average and there’s what’s ongoing in SoCal since last year. The last day with at least 0.10” rain in Downtown LA was on May 5th, 255 days ago per @NWSLosAngeles @NBCLA #FireWx #CAwx 1/17/2025

A very concerning multi-day fire weather/Santa Ana wind event is expected across Southern California today through Thursday. Damaging winds 50-80mph in terrain favored locations combined with low humidity and dry vegetation will result in fast fire spread should ignition occur. #firewx #CAwx

As of this AM: 42 uncontained large fires are burning across the NW, fanned by extremely dangerous fire weather conditions. Both central OR & northeastern WA now see at least three more weeks of fire weather days each year compared to 1970s. #wildfires #firewx #climatechange @climatecentral.org
South Central Oregon now sees 26 additional fire weather days annually compared to the early 1970s.
Northeastern Washington now see three more weeks of fire weather conditions annually compared to the early 1970s.

SPC continues to have a critical fire weather risk for much of Southern California today. The NWS Forecast has several areas where the RH <= 15% and Sustained Wind Speed >= 25 MPH (shaded in red) this afternoon, especially in the mountains and portions of the South Coast. #cawx #firewx

The difference between onshore/marine air vs drier northerly/inland hills offshore w/ midweek to next weekend elevated fire danger esp. inland hills/valleys is noted here. Thursday likely to be drier/hotter inland as well. Stay tuned #CAwx #FireWx 6/7/2026

The warm, windy and dry #firewx components will be active during the day Monday (also note RH% staying daytime dry overnight into Mon AM) As offshore wind decreases later Monday may see some better bayside RH% recovery Mon night. 5/17/2026 #CAwx
