The #Ebola outbreak in #DRC is outpacing our response, making it imperative that we rapidly scale up every aspect of our efforts to contain it. We stand in solidarity with the government, affected communities, and the courageous health workers serving under exceptionally difficult circumstances.

From #Gaza and #Sudan to #Ukraine, #DRC, #Haiti and many more, children are paying an immensely high price for conflict. They are severely affected by violence, destruction of schools and infrastructure, and compromised health services. They need safety, services and peace.

After having consulted the #DRC & #Uganda where the #Ebola disease caused by Bundibugyo virus is known to be currently occurring, I determine that the epidemic constitutes a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC), as defined in the provisions of IHR. My statement: bit.ly/4wGGiwX

International Humanitarian Law (IHL) must be respected. No excuses, no exceptions. In #Gaza, #Sudan, #DRC and beyond, warring parties are deliberately bombing hospitals, targeting aid workers and killing civilians with impunity. The Canadian government must uphold #IHL and our shared humanity.

🧵 Violence in #DRC has escalated to horrifying levels. But instead of overwhelming you with complex political details, I want you to consider this: The DRC is filled w/beautiful people, great music, art and culture. And today, they're scared + in search of safety.

#DRC: As armed clashes rage in #Goma, our teams in Kyeshero hospital are receiving injured people referred by the @icrc.org from the overcrowded Ndosho hospital. Our teams report shelling, shooting and looting, including in the centre of the city, causing panic and displacement.
