☀️ 96 solar panels are now powering Kaffin Madaki paediatric hospital in #Nigeria. These solar panels cover the energy demands for the entire hospital, replacing generators that used around 200 litres of fuel per day. #ClimateSolutions

In Nigeria's kidnap-for-ransom hellscape, 50 schoolkids slipped their chains and made it home from that Catholic school siege. Over 200 others, plus teachers, still vanish into the void. #Nigeria

Potter & ceramicist Ladi Kwali is one of Africa's most culturally significant modern artists. Celebrated for elevating traditional Nigerian #pottery into an internationally acclaimed #art form, blending #indigenous hand-building methods w/Western studio techniques. She died #OTD in 1984. #Nigeria
A historical color photograph of Dr. Ladi Dosei Kwali (c. 1925–1984)—the iconic Nigerian master ceramicist who modernized traditional Gwari pottery—during a live pottery demonstration in England in the 1970s. Seated and facing toward the right, she bends forward with an intense focus and steady concentration. She wears a structured, light blue polo shirt paired with a richly patterned brown and white traditional wrapper skirt, her head wrapped in an intricately tied, coordinating brown, gold, and white patterned gele headscarf. Her gold, teardrop-shaped earrings add a delicate detail to her focused profile. Her dark, experienced hands actively shape a massive, smooth, unfired clay water jar resting before her. Her left hand stabilizes the wide rim, while her right hand uses a flat wooden tool to smooth the curved side of the vessel. The background softly blurs into the interior of a workshop setting with a muted doorway, capturing a serene, industrial mood. This composition emphasizes the monumental historical significance of her global tours, where she demonstrated her masterful synthesis of indigenous African hand-building techniques and Western studio glazes.
