6 Ways to Prepare for a Disaster With Your Dog

1. Know what natural disasters are likely in your area. If you know what you and your dog could face, you can better prepare. 2. Pack a to-go bag with essentials like food, water, collapsable bowls, medications, and a pet first-aid kit. An extra leash and collar is a good idea! 3. Create a binder with copies of their medical records, especially proof of vaccination. It’s best to include photos of your dog as well. 4. It’s crucial to research what pet-friendly hotels and shelters are close by *before* disaster strikes. 5. Consider crate training. Crate-trained dogs can be accommodated at shelters more easily because they’re comfortable spending time in their crates. 6. If you and your dog get separated, having them mirco-chipped could be the only thing that gets them back. Remember to *register* your dog’s microchip with an information database like AKC Reunite.
