Interstellar #comet #3I/ATLAS in the early hours of November 20 as seen from Crete, as the weather was favorable. A faint ion tail and anti-tail can be seen as the comet is past perihelion. Nothing out of the ordinary but cool to see such a bright interstellar object. #cometWatch

On October 16, 2024, while photographing comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) with a 135-mm telephoto lens (the equipment in action can be seen on the left), I also took a series of photos using a 16-mm wide-angle lens to capture a nightscape of the Sierra de Enguera, dominated by the comet. Its long, narrow dust tail spanned an impressive 30 degrees, stretching across the entire constellation of Ophiuchus. Additionally, its narrow anti-tail can be seen extending downward behind the clouds near the horizon. The scene is naturally illuminated, as the Full Moon lit up the landscape like a large spotlight while casting a beautiful bluish glow over the sky. In the final photo of the series, I stepped into the frame to bear witness to a unique and unrepeatable event.

After many days sitting on a rock & staring at a cloudy sky, I finally was lucky & excited to see Comet Tsuchinsan-Atlas! It became the brightest #comet in 13 years & was visible to the naked eye in mid-Oct. 2024. ☄️ #Photography #MobilePhotography #AlphabetChallenge #WeekZforZoom #AstroPhotography

Here in this picture you see stars and Comet C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS and its tail passing our earth over a cloud band. I was finally and fortunately able to see it, after I spent days sitting on a rock in the cold, waiting for it, and hoping for at least a glimpse of the comet between the mostly clouded sky everyday. It was the only day it was visible for me, the next days were completely cloudy again.

Given its extremely long orbit, this ancient celestial traveler was first thought of that it likely originated in the Oort Cloud, a large spherical shell of icy debris at the outer reaches of our solar system but as of October 14, 2024, the comet’s path may take it out of the solar system altogether.
It made its closest transit past the Sun on September 27 and was expected to come within approximately 70 million kilometers (44 million miles) of Earth on October 12.
The comet is consisting out of dust, ice, and rock. When a comet approaches the Sun, it gets warmer. Heat causes its ice to sublimate into gas, and these gases and dust become a glowing coma and tail that can extend millions of miles.
It became the brightest comet in 13 years & was visible to the naked eye in mid-October 2024.
