Three-tone disruptive camouflage for Soviet vehicles was approved in the summer of 1941. #OTD in 1941 an order was given to begin production of 6K dark brown and 7K yellow earth paints. While rare in #tanks, this type of camo was very common in #artillery. #history #WW2 #WWII

The German 37 mm anti-tank gun wasn't the only weapon in its class with a bad reputation. #OTD in 1943 a report on the fighting in Tunisia compared the effect of 37 mm shells to peas bouncing off the armour of German tanks. #artillery #History #WW2 #WWII

The 37 mm Gun M3 was standardized #OTD in 1938. This gun was one of the most powerful weapons in its class, but like other light anti-tank guns it was not very useful against new types of tanks introduced in the early 1940s. #artillery #history #WW2 #WWII

The Red Army captured enough German equipment to issue it to its own forces. #OTD in 1945 elements of the 3rd Ukrainian Front were ordered to issue 75 mm Pak, 88 mm Flak, and 105-155 mm field guns in cases of shortages of Soviet weapons. #artillery #history #WW2 #WWII

The appearance of the thickly armoured Tiger II tank was quickly met with an improvement in anti-tank guns. #OTD in 1944 Stalin ordered that one regiment in anti-tank artillery brigades would be armed with 100 mm BS-3 guns. #artillery #history #WW2 #WWII

Crew of a 3" Gun M5 firing their weapon near Vielsalm, Belgium #OTD in 1944. The M5 was a powerful antitank gun, but a mass of over 2 tons limited its mobility. Troops preferred the lighter 57 mm gun, even if it penetrated less armour. #artillery #history #WW2 #WWII

The Germans identified the need for a small anti-tank gun that could easily be concealed #OTD in 1925. The result was the 3.7 cm Pak, a potent anti-tank gun for its time that was long in the tooth by the Second World War, earning the nickname "doorknocker". #artillery #history

A brief review of American ordnance was composed #OTD in 1943 by the Soviet GAU. The agency rejected American long guns and Bazookas, but asked for more mortars, AA guns, pistols, explosives, and mobile workshops. #artillery #history #WW2 #WWII
