Sea surface temperatures are way above average in parts of the #Arctic as of last month, particularly in the Kara Sea Basin extending to around Svalbard and the Greenland Sea. This is also found in the Hudson Bay due to their very early sea ice melt-out. Data from @noaa.gov OISSTv2.1 🌊

The complete loss of cold years in the Arctic since the 1980s is astounding. The last "blue" stripe was 1992, following the Pinatubo Volcano eruption in the summer of 1991. #ShowYourStripes #Climate #Arctic

In the next few days, I will be sharing some of our work that I am most proud of from my time at NOAA/GFDL. But I would also like a little normalcy today on my feed, so here's my go-to sea ice data viz update. #Arctic sea ice extent still remains the *lowest* on record for the date (JAXA). Not good
