Three

The clock ticks like a hammer
The quiet around it amplifies
The hour

knock

My mother cried over two
Knowing the rule was three
Her sobs between small seconds

KNock

The clock hammers like a gunshot
The regret around it antagonizes
My dour

The air holds gravity
The gravity holds me
And the minutes weep

Knowing these things come
In threes

Frog At The Bottom Of The Well

There is no sin thriving on these hands
Nothing on these hands
I don't have
Not even love
Not even strays
And I don't have to explore these emotions

All of these strays, all of these frogs
Making eggs
Frothing in the well
Sliming in my well
And they poisoned my entire point of view.

Stray frogs on my hands, former friends I had no clue
Talking about me saying things that are untrue!
Poisoning my well while they are all stuck in there.
Gomenasai, their love have sent me to nowhere!

All these frogs, all these strays, all these frogs, all these strays, all these frogs, all these strays—
STUCK IN THERE!!

All of these strays I once called I once kept I once called, my dear friends all frothing deep in my old well!

A thousand eggs all filled
The lies that they shilled!
So tight was their embrace I'm running out of air!

All of these frogs I once kept I once kept I once kept as my friends but they changed, new legs bursting forth!

My new rule for myself is to purge all of these strays
From every part of me,
My head, my fingers, my toes, and my stomach!

There is no love writhing on these hands
Living in my head
I don't have
Not even care,
Not even Empathy—
The frogs in the well

All of the entrails, all the frogspawn
Churning legs
None of their names
All of their foam
Have spilled into my pristine, cold floor

All these frogs, all these strays, all these frogs, all these strays, all these frogs, all these strays—
DIE IN THERE!!

All of these strays I once cared I once paid I have grown so distant away from me because of their lies!

Secretions rubbed off of me
A neurotoxin!
Mouth foaming as I breathe long enough to say this:

All of these ingrates these tumors these strays I have known to be friends I thought they were but I'm shaking off!

My new rule for myself is to drain them from my well,
Out of my eyesight, my taste buds, my flashbacks, sensations of peace.
Viscera out of my well!

#AmpersandAfterDark #poetry #blueskypoet @madp03t.bsky.social A consequence must outlast its cause I am hoping to get some time to really dig into some of these again later. I very much like the idea of this one, but I think the ending is a little off. I wrote it though, and that counts.

Foundation

I was laid a foundation
Of tendon and bone
A cage under a tarp
Of muscle and skin
The sum of my parts
Some of my parts
Are tired, worked past their
Warranty, held in contempt
Of youth and less time
I do not have the luxury
Of picking
Or choosing
I only have what I have been given
And I have abused what I had
It's enough to carry
Me and my ideals
Share the remaining strength
In the bones, the snap of the muscle
Sometimes still aware of the sun
On my skin.

Tritina: Things Kept In My Drawer

Esoteric songs
Left inside my old drawer
Hidden with silence.

Hid them with silence,
So warm, I knew, these old songs
Tucked in the drawer.

Shoved deep in the drawer
My tears rendered their silence,
Matches and old songs

These old songs, old matches, wet with old tears, I believe I hid in my drawer, after I chose silence.

Failed Prophecy

I was made to burn
Bright, hot, and fast
Burn not like a candle
But like a flare
I was made to combust
To immolate and heat the air
A disposable sun
Needed, used, and discarded
For a more permanent solution
I was made to burn
I was made to change sand into glass
To melt and bend steel
Bright and hot
The fuse lives just under my
Domestication
I was made to burn
Like a flare, like a sun,
It's just, every time I open the drawer
To get the matches,
To fulfill my purpose, light the fuse,
