Harnessing the power of small donors was great masterclass here on day 2 of Political Tech Summit. Loads to bring back to women preparing for 2029 Local Elections #WomenInPolitics

#OTD in 1960, Sirimavo Bandaranaike made history when she was elected Prime Minister of Ceylon (now Sri Lanka). She was the world's first democratically elected female Prime Minister and head of government. #WomenInPolitics #WomensHistory #SriLanka
A black-and-white studio portrait of Sirimavo Bandaranaike (1916–2000), the world’s first female prime minister and head of government. Captured in a three-quarter profile facing left, her calm, resolute expression features a slight, thoughtful smile. Her dark hair is pulled back cleanly into a neat, low bun at the nape of her neck, revealing a simple stud earring. She wears a traditional Sri Lankan osaria (Kandyan sari) consisting of a pleated, draped satin bodice secured at the shoulder with a small brooch, paired with a white lace-embroidered short-sleeve underblouse. The lighting casts gentle highlights on the smooth texture of the fabric and the contours of her face against a dark, minimalist, textured background. The composition emphasizes her dignified stance, projecting an aura of quiet authority, historical permanence, and sophisticated grace befitting her status as a foundational pioneer in global political leadership.

Women bulldozed the ballot boxes, steering wins across NYC, Jersey, and Virginia with heavy hitters like Sherrill and Spanberger smashing expectations. #WomenInPolitics

#OTD in 2005, we lost Shirley Chisholm. Chisholm was an American politician, educator, and author. In 1968, she became the first Black woman elected to the US Congress--and represented NY's 12th congressional district for 7 terms from 1969 to 1983. #WomenInPolitics

More women in positions of power doesn’t necessarily mean different politics. Meg Schwarz writes that women’s growing role in populist-right movements complicates assumptions about representation, leadership and what happens once women enter the room. #WomenInPolitics #Representation #Leadership

Women, power and the politics we choose

The rise of women within populist-right politics complicates assumptions about representation, showing that putting women in positions of power does not determine the politics or values they will pursue.

The hounding of women MPs by the media will stop women from choosing politics as a career. No one should want to see that happen. No one. Women bring a different view and perspective that benefits everyone. It’s to everyone’s detriment if this happens. #WomenInPolitics

Women make up 51.4% of SC's population, outvote men, and are the majority of the electorate—yet they hold just 2 of 46 seats in the Senate & 20 of 124 in the House. The numbers don’t lie: SC has a representation crisis. #SCPol #WomenInPolitics
