Róża (Różyczka) Goździewska served as a nurse during the #warsawuprising when she was 8 years old, bringing water to the wounded in a field hospital, 82 years ago (Aug-Oct 1944). Her father had been killed by the Gestapo the year before, & she served alongside a 19yo cousin.

#OTD in 1944, during the #WarsawUprising, my beautiful great-grandmother, Zofia Langner, codename "Złomir" was killed during the bombing of Mokotów. The district was heavily targeted by the Luftwaffe and German heavy artillery because Mokotów was one of the last districts to fall.

Last night, I went to the hospital where my great-grandmother worked during the Warsaw Uprising, she also worked in other smaller hospitals and medical points in the area. On 26th September 1944 she was killed in the bombing of Mokotów, a street away from this hospital #History #WW2 #WarsawUprising

#OTD in 1944, 19 year old messenger, Hanna Rychłowska and her twin brother Kazimierz, were killed on the night of 1/2 August during the #WarsawUprising. They were killed near Boernerowo (now a suburb of Warsaw) while attempting to break through to the units in the Kampinos Forest.

Wiesław Gniazdowski was born #OTD in 1929. He grew up in Warsaw, a real Varsovian, as he once told me. In 1942, he joined the Home Army. His physical education teacher scouted him and his classmates. #History #WW2 #Thread #WarsawUprising

Zbigniew Godlewski was born #OTD in 1928. He was only 17 years old when he joined the Warsaw Uprising on 1 August 1944. During the Uprising, he fought in the Żolibórz district. No other information is known about what he did. #History #WarsawUprising #WW2 #Thread

Barbara Wiewiorowska was born #OTD in 1925. During the occupation, she completed high school in secret. She joined the Home Army in 1942, where her role was to help distribute newspapers in secret and to provide messenger services. #History #Thread #WarsawUprising

Yesterday, Janina Rożecka died at the age of 104. During the German occupation she sheltered Jews (for which she was recognized as Righteous Among the Nations), as well as resistance members and weapons. She also served as a nurse during the #WarsawUprising. RIP
