Sitting with the reality that USB-C is lauded as the most robust USB hardware to date, yet myself rarely have had USB-C ports that outlived the hardware they were installed in. Have had to swap out boards in devices to keep them working. Despite everything but the USB-C port on the old boards still being fully functional. Have soldered proprietary power connectors on older hardware. Lack the confidence in my soldering ability to even attempt that with a USB-C port. Heck, cellular service providers explicitly exclude USB-C ports from monthly insurance plans. Once that component fails, you have to buy a new phone, again despite the phone hardware being otherwise fully functional. Every discussion of this seems to come down to the user being at fault for how they handle the port. Yet users handled all the ports that came before, and usually the device died before the port did, and on the rare occasion that the port did die first, it was more readily repairable. A technology that does not survive its users is not a robust technology. Period.
