A Meadow Brown Butterfly perches on its faintly ridiculous stilt-like legs in the central section of a yellow flower as it gathers pollen. Lovely delicately patterned light brown wings are folded upwards with just a hint of orange showing and the little black eye on the upper part of the outer wing tip.

The peacock butterfly, with iridescent eye spots on its red wings, are one of those species which seek out rotting fruit in the hedgerow to sip its sugary fermented juices, getting slightly off their faces in the process. When one just sits there and poses for me, like this one did on a pale yellow cone flower, I like to imagine its been daytime drinking and cant be bothered with all the flapping right now.
