The statue depicts Kirk tossing baseball caps in a T-shirt featuring the word 'Freedom.' An adjacent sign bearing a photo of Kirk and the phrase 'May Charlie be received into the merciful arms of Jesus, our loving savior,' was also vandalized, with the name 'Jesus' crossed out. Turning Point USA announced they would restore the statue and replace the signs while working with law enforcement to identify the perpetrators. Erika Kirk, Charlie's widow, responded on social media, stating that attempts to silence her husband's voice through violence or vandalism would only amplify his legacy. She referenced her husband's belief that for every statue torn down, two should be built. Kirk, 31, was fatally shot during a Utah Valley University event on September 10, 2025. The alleged shooter, Tyler Robinson, 23, has pleaded not guilty to capital murder charges. Robinson reportedly expressed opposition to Kirk's rhetoric, which included spreading racist, sexist, transphobic, and nationalist beliefs, in text messages with his roommate. The Phoenix Police Department has not yet identified any suspects or made arrests related to the vandalism as of Monday, according to USA Today.
