Singaporean artist Leia Ham reimagined LotR as Tale of the Middle Kingdom, since Chinese name for China (Zhōngguó) means "The Middle Kingdom." Her concept art includes the Fellowship, armors, buildings like Bag End, props like Aragorn's banner and Fellowship brooches, and more. #TolkienTrewsday
An illustration of the Fellowship, reimagined with Chinese-style period outfits.
An illustration of armors of Gondor, Rohan, and Rivendell Elves, reimagined using different periods of Chinese armors as concepts. On the top right are three side profiles of Rohan man, Gondorian, and Elf with different Chinese hairstyles. On the bottom right is Aragorn's banner redrawn with Chinese influence.
A concept art of Bag End reimagined as Chinese court houses, with tall stone gates, round wooden doors, curved roofs, and open courtyard, nestled in a hill.
A concept art of Rivendell in the style of Chinese painting. Next to it are several props drawn in Chinese style such as Fellowship brooch based on gingko leaves, lembas in the shape of mooncake, Elfstone as round jade, Galadriel's phial in a green jade bottle, and shards of Narsil.

Tolkien's notion of evil can be summed up pretty simply: the domination of others. Stripping away their freedom and their will, forcing them to do yours instead. So whatever his authoritarian fans might think, their actions are, in fact, textbook Tolkienian evil. #TolkienTuesday #TolkienTrewsday

For #TolkienTrewsday theme of Christopher Tolkien: My favorite tidbit is this humorous invitation by #Tolkien for Christopher's 21st birthday party, which looked...promising, judging from the bottom note. 📷: The Great Tales Never End: Essays in Memory of Christopher Tolkien (2020) #TolkienTuesday
The scanned image of an old invitation for Christopher Tolkien's 21st birthday. It says: Professor and Mrs. Tolkien request the pleasure of your company on Wednesday, November 21st, 1945, to assist them in celebrating the Coming of Age of their Son Sub-Lieutenant C. J. R. Tolkien, RNVR. 6:30 pm onwards, RSVP if not coming. The bottom texts say: Carriage at midnight, ambulances at 2 a.m, wheelbarrows at 5 a.m, hearses at daybreak.

Rivendell as a sanctuary reminds me of The Peach Blossom Spring (Tao Yuanming, 421 CE). It depicts a fisherman who got lost when sailing on a river surrounded by peach trees, and found a hidden ethereal village. The villagers' ancestors had fled the political turmoil and never left. #TolkienTrewsday
A colored illustration of Rivendell, a valley with lush vegetations and a river running through it. An Elven sanctuary can be seen perching above the river, surrounded by trees.
An ink and watercolor traditional Chinese painting depicting a small village surrounded by peach trees and mountains.

Luthien & Huan, cultivator & her spiritual dog🌾 For the "Cultivation" prompt of #TolkienTrewsday #TolkienTuesday #Tolkien For this piece I mixed Tolkien's fantasy with cultivation novels, a subgenre of xianxian fantasy where characters refine their spiritual energy through martial arts and music🎶
Coloured illustration of Luthien and Huan. They both appear sitting in a green field, with mountains in the background and a pink sky.

Huan appears as a fantastic black and white huge dog. Luthien as a young woman wearing a blue hanfu with her dark hair half up tied with two hair sticks.

She's playing a guqin and there is a beam of light coming out of her right hand and spiralling in the air, symbolizing the spiritual energy of the melody she is playing.

Plenty of Hidden Realms to be found in this #TheHobbit postcard sent from Sweden. Even a little Gollum hidden away in his cave. Illustration by Hans Arnold, a children's book illustrator. Wonder if Mrs Evans or the sender was a #Tolkien fan? #TolkienTrewsday

I made this thread long ago to appreciate Christopher Tolkien. Bringing this here for #TolkienTrewsday, because without his work, the world of Tolkien studies and our understanding of his vast expanse of imagination would not have been like now. 🧵1/9 #TolkienTuesday #Tolkien 📷: Josh Dolgin
A photograph of Christopher Tolkien, sitting in front of a fireplace and a wall shelf full of decorative ceramic plates and candles. He wore a coat over a green vest and checkered shirt. He was laughing and folding his arms casually during an interview with an unseen person.
