Det er nyhetsbyrået AFP som har omtalt auksjonen som finner sted i Texas senere denne måneden. «Guds hånd»-målet skjedde etter at Maradona i kvartfinalen mot England slo ballen på ulovlig vis med hånden. Dommeren så ikke forseelsen og Argentina vant oppgjøret 2-1. Auksjonshuset Heritage Auctions forventer at ballen vil bli solgt for et åttesifret dollarbeløp. Det tilsvarer minst 95 millioner kroner. Startbudet er satt til 2,5 millioner dollar, som tilsvarer 23,7 millioner kroner. Det var den summen ballen ble solgt for sist under en auksjon i 2022.
