#SUVs: The psychopath's choice. “Buying whatever vehicle we like, and driving it wherever and whenever we please without having to think about the consequences for other people, has become normalised and ingrained across our society over decades." www.theguardian.com/world….

There were more than 1 million larger cars - SUVs - sold in 2023. This is around 60% of sales and is projected to be 75% of sales in coming years*. 🚸 We believe children should be safe travelling to and from school. * Stats @cleancitiescampaign #carspreading #suvs #schoolrun

I try to be hopeful. But America's love affair with #SUVs and #carbloat leaves me 💔😫 You don't have to be a genius to understand that a bigger car = more fuel, more $$$, and more CO2 emissions. Add how much more dangerous they are, and you really need to be a selfish idiot to buy one.

"According to the International Energy Agency, in 2023 the growth in big cars increased oil consumption worldwide by 500,000 barrels per day and generated 20 percent of the entire global increase in manmade CO2." Via @davidzipper.bsky.social

1/ Driving an SUV is selfish, anti-social, and unethical, but we have allowed advertisers to paint it as highly desirable
Happily there's a much more powerful force than advertising - the judgement of our friends and peers
Maybe it's time to start wielding it

Australia’s roads are filling up with ever-larger SUVs and utes. Bigger vehicles increase the risks for pedestrians, cyclists and other drivers – and may also change how people drive, writes Milad Haghani. #RoadSafety #SUVs #TransportPolicy #Australia

Australia’s growing love affair with SUVs and utes is reshaping road safety. Larger vehicles don’t just cause more harm in crashes – they may also change how drivers behave.

Superb article from Arwa Mahdawi on SUVs: "we seem to have crossed over into emotional support vehicle (ESV) territory. A lot of the tanks I see on the road appear to serve no other purpose than making their owner feel better about their insecurities." #SUVs www.theguardian.com/comme….

Please, for the love of God, stop buying supersized cars | Arwa Mahdawi

Why would anyone want a car that’s too big for parking spaces, or that’s a menace to other road users? Arwa Mahdawi has a theory
