Mano and colleagues have developed a self-organized bone-like model by co-encapsulating stromal and monocytic cells in liquefied gelatin microcapsules. Their direct interaction effectively supports the emergence of osteoblast-, osteocyte-, and osteoclast-like phenotypes, facilitating cellular crosstalk and promoting mineralized matrix formation and turnover without the need for lineage-specific induction.
