Just Add Water
We were given seeds.
Great seeds that hold within
them the power to grow worlds
out of thin air.
They were planted, with care.
It mattered not where they fell, flew,
blew, the ground being fertile
or fallow.
They required fire to
crack open their armored hulls
created to keep their treasure
for millennia.
The earth held them close,
for she knew them to be
most sacred stores,
time capsules
forged of
light.
She blew clouds into gathers,
seas wild, she rumbled and shook
to loose the seeds, to wake
them when it was time.
Her waters rousing our waters,
wells, springs of feeling all we might
not ever have allowed ourselves
to feel—dire to bliss—now
brings the seeds to stir.
Their husks softening, their cells
drinking, their breath returning,
as roots stretch down,
stems reach sky,
breaking through what is solid,
hard, to find the fires of our
hallowed star kindling
them: rise.
To bear flower,
fruit, plenty.
Even when it seems
impossible.
As the Buddha, Jesus,
Gandhi, Martin Luther King,
Mother Theresa—adepts, avatars who tended
the seeds long, so long
foresaw
that we
might
see.
