One for #RomanRoadsFriday! “Roman Autobahn” uncovered next to the A8 (a motorway in Southern Germany). Achaeologists have uncovered a 90m stretch of the so-called Roman Alblimes road – a key frontier route linking Rottweil (my hometown) and Heidenheim. 👉 www.tagesschau.de/inland/….
Excavated Roman road: large light-colored stones stretching into the distance across an open field.

The A64 briefly bowing away from the old road betw. #York (behind the camera) & #Tadcaster, in the distance (RR 28c). The names 'Street Houses' &'Streeton' hint at the old street's ancient origins. I'll be walking it again in October. #RomanRoadsFriday #Hastings960 #Yorkshire 📷 Google Earth, 2002
A colour satellite image showing a modern A road curving through an agricultural landscape in the shape of a bow, with a straight, wooded line as a relaxed string between the two ends. A hamlet at the southern end is labelled 'Street Houses'. 'Steeton' is part way along the bow.

#RomanRoadsFriday & while i feel like I see a lot of pics like this circulate, can't deny that it was a real thrill to finally take our own of the iconic Pompeii streets this year 🏺AncientBluesky

Reposting this for #romanroadsfriday which apparently is a thing. I love how we just stumbled on this one by accident, wonder how many more are scattered throughout the French countryside. #archaeology 🏺

Ancient cart ruts on the Roman road through Fontvieille (near the Barbegas Mills which we're seeing tomorrow). Part of El Camino de Santiago, otherwise unmarked - just a local hiking route. #archaeology #gaul #provence
