Icozoue held up her kaana crystal between two fingers.
“And the energy that surges through our great cosmic lightning bolt,” she said, “is the result of the Great Negative and the Great Positive trying to crash back together again. This is what we call kaa energy—the eternal tension which gives us life.”
“Wait.” Mireia pressed her fingers into her eyelids. “Are you being literal about all of this, or is it some kind of metaphor?”
“Yes,” said Icozoue.
“All reality is a lightning bolt.” Kena’s eyes were alight with the idea. “But lightning only lasts an instant—there and gone in a flash. Our universe isn’t like that… or is it?”
“Or is it?” She gave him a subtle smile. “Time is all relative, young Raa. An instant to us might be an eternity from another point of view. And a million years might be only an instant on some grander cosmic scale.”
“Ai milaza,” Mireia muttered in a daze, “this is a lot.”
