Geneticist Janet Rowley proved that cancer is a genetic disease. First scientist to identify specific chromosomal translocations as the direct cause of leukemia/other cancers, forever changing #oncology & paving the way for targeted therapies. She was born #OTD in 1925. #WomenInSTEM #medsky (1/2)
A black and white photograph of Dr. Janet Rowley in a laboratory setting. She is a woman with short, dark hair, smiling warmly toward the camera. She wears a white lab coat over a dark top and a distinctive necklace with large, light-colored oval links. She is seated next to a large binocular microscope, with her left hand resting on its base near the adjustment knobs. In the background, there are office supplies, files, and a poster that reads "IMAGES 1923-1974."
A color portrait of world-renowned geneticist Dr. Janet Rowley. She is an older woman with swept-back silver-white hair and a warm, intelligent smile. She is wearing a periwinkle blue coat with a high, rounded collar and a large matching button. On her left lapel is an elegant gold brooch shaped like a stylized branch with small purple stones. The background is softly blurred, focusing all attention on the pioneer who proved cancer is a genetic disease.

Again I ask #Medsky why they are not using N95s in #oncology. Why are there no HEPA purifiers in lobbies, patient rooms, etc? There is no justification for not using the most effective tools we have to PREVENT airborne infection. There is no scientific, ethical, nor cost related reason not to.

Was great to have Dr. Jennifer Temel speak about the benefits of early #palliativecare for #oncology patients at Medicine Grand Rounds. I wished all oncology patients have established palliative care docs to join them in their journey from the beginning, seems to make a lot of sense. #medsky

Why aren’t you masking in #oncology #MedSky? And why are you not using N95s? At what point are HCWS going to take infection control seriously & help their patients understand the threat this virus poses to them? Why are HCWs not modeling the importance of precautions with their own patients?

#Cancer doesn’t just drain the body. It hijacks a brain circuit that controls motivation. A neurologist breaks down new research suggesting it may be possible to restore what patients often miss most: the will to engage with life. buff.ly/J1JYE0Q #neuroscience #oncology 🧪 🩺

EGFR-directed antibodies promote HER2 ADC internalization and efficacy

Gupta et al. demonstrate that high EGFR expression mediates resistance to HER2 antibody drug conjugates (ADCs) including trastuzumab deruxtecan (T-DXd) by limiting HER2/ADC internalization. The additi...
