Good news! The FDA's new draft guidance could reduce monkey testing for some cancer drugs. Now we need to make sure it goes even further. Tell the FDA to prioritize human-relevant methods over animal tests. Submit our template letter by 31 July: www.ad-international.org/…. #NAMs #FDA

Researchers at Cedars-Sinai developed a human spinal cord-on-a-chip for studying young-onset, sporadic #ALS. Using @emulatebio.bsky.social's platform, the new tool incorporates patient-derived motor neurons and endothelial-like cells to form a blood-brain barrier. #neuroskyence #NAMs 🧪
Graphical abstract for the paper linked in the following post, showing how the microfluidic human spinal cord chip incorporates induced pluripotent stem cells from young-onset ALS patients and healthy controls, as well as spNPCs and iBMECs, into a microfluidic chip. There are sections describing the other work done in the paper on neuronal maturation, ALS-specific gene signatures, diverse motor neuron subtypes, and synaptic dysregulation in ALS motor neurons.
