Ok, #MySQL is giving me a mindfuck… I have a DELETE that takes ~12-13s (every 30min). I did an EXPLAIN ANALYZE of that, and it runs in 2-6s. But if I do that explain a few times and then switch back to just DELETE, it deletes much more rows, so this all implies that the explain doesn't delete them?…

Hypothetically, if I was building something like an AppView 🙃 would it make more sense to have foreign keys for user IDs as integers everywhere, with a user table mapping int to DID, or to have DID strings everywhere and do joins using strings? Would such string joins be slower? #mysql #postgres

Very nice tool for converting an #SQLite database into #MySQL: github.com/techouse/sql.... I'm planning to experiment with switching from SQLite to MySQL or Postgres (and maybe DuckDB?) for the feeds database and see how it behaves and how the performance differs… 🤔

I feel like this might be the key thing for my #MySQL vs. #Postgres choice - MySQL seems to have something like 2.5x higher disk utilization (2-3x higher write I/O ops and throughput), which means at this rate I'd hit the disk limits with a ~2.5x higher traffic than now… Pg has more space to grow 🤔
