#Mitigation

"Being surrounded by a really broad group of self-selecting people that feel the need to actually take action and are doing something about it is good for your #MentalHealth. I really feel it's an antidepressant to find a group already working on the problem and join them in taking action." #yyc

"I've been in many #HubAndSpokes rides & met people who'd never been on a bike downtown but once they actually get on those #BikePaths, just like a young woman said to me, 'I can do this, no problem. Before, it was a nonstarter to even conceive of riding a bike downtown!' That's how change happens"

" #Arusha has been focused on #CalgaryDollars, building #ComplementaryCurrencies, looking at #CircularEconomics. That’s the upside of this moment: people are championing alternatives to a broken status quo, raising awareness of the #Oligarchy, highlighting the damage these billionaires are causing"

"In polls in Canada & the US, #capitalism is ranking equal or lower than #DemocraticSocialism and other forms of human economic designs. It's increasingly no longer seen as the be all, end all. This is a very interesting development & it's worth digging into."

"We ARE hearing less about #ClimateChange for no good reason but there's a growing, unmistakable interest in #SystemChange! We all see the madness of international relations, international policies derailing & the limitations of capitalism. People are finally getting that something's got to change."

"I know that in all the years that I've been involved with both the Hub & #ArushaCenter there's been a very noticeable decline in media uptake on press releases & media events around climate. In addition I think citizens in Calgary & across the country feel so overwhelmed. There's good news though!"

"The report repeatedly states global greenhouse gas #emissions dictate the degree to which we'll have far more destruction, that warming intensifies or stabilizes in the 2nd half of this century directly due to #GHGs. Can you imagine why the #MarkCarney government would want to bury this report?"

"Crossing the 1.5 degree line reminds me of the really egregious lack of #ClimateChange coverage on so many levels, whether it's the media or funders or with government. It's really across the board right now that rather than rising to the challenge, civil society is hushing up & abdicating action"

"The #CanadasChangingClimate report came out on a Friday aft before a long weekend, a well-established dirty old trick of governments when they don't want people to know things. Journalists are like everybody else. They've got vacations, barbecues, the weekend. By Monday there's other stories."
