From a series of variations on the image of a man adopting a front-facing bodybuilder's pose (between 'front lat spread' and 'most muscular'). In each variation the figure is viewed from head to mid-thigh, but with most of the body replaced by drawn, abstract or symbolic elements.
In this variation, the picture ground is a flat "medical" pink, slightly lighter at the centre (a colour range typical of self-adhesive dressings, and old-style prostheses made to match caucasian skin tones). The figure is mostly absent or merely implied: head, arms, spine, central abdomen, groin and thighs are represented as a black, smoke-like fuzz. The wrists and clenched hands, emerging from fuzzy black cuffs, are collaged from photographic cut-outs.
A text, in spidery red-brown handwriting, occupies spaces to left and right of the figure. In this variation, the picture ground is a flat "medical" pink, graduating from slightly darker at top to lighter at bottom, a colour range typical of self-adhesive dressings, and old-style prostheses made to match caucasian skin.
The figure here is like a macabre conjurer: represented by collaged, photo-realistic, skeletal parts: a white skull, spine, pelvis and femurs. The chest is a white, vaporous cloud; the arms an amalgam of vapour and brush strokes suggestive of the striped, puff-sleeves of a flamboyant 16th-century courtier, or dandy. The wrists and clenched hands are also collaged photographic fragments, although mostly hidden, being thrust into wide black tubes protruding into the picture frame at bottom.
