Fatal #landslides continue to occur at an unprecedented rate this year. The black line on this graph is the cumulative number of fatal landslides in 2024, by month, up to the end of April. The grey lines are the same data for previous years. Coseismic landslides are excluded. 2024 is exceptional.

These are Planet Labs satellite images of the aftermath of the deadly #landslides in West Sumatra, Indonesia following intense rainfall. These are not isolated examples by any means. At least 700 people have been killed across the country.
