A thought @ #KeyToThePhoenixHeart #HouMingHao was so ethereal in #FangsOfFortune. He oozed mysteriousness I am so hard to convince w any #cdrama outside of history, but HMH convinced me His ML in KTTPH (1st few episodes) is not as fluid. His almost psychotic bend is a little off putting Is 👇🏼

As i paused BoP after 10 episodes i can't say much about how it progresses. But i definitely recommend #KeyToThePhoenixHeart It has all of that! Both leads are very clever. She is only 16 at first amd therefore in the beginning a bit short-tempered and impulsive. But she's indépendant & intelligent

I'd been planning on writing a post explaining why I won't watch #KeyToThePhoenixHeart but then I read this comment by the founder/mod of the Hou Min Gao fan community on Reddit and she captured exactly how I feel about it all. #Cdrama www.reddit.com/r/HouMingHao...

Over the past months I've inevitably come across plenty of promotional material for the drama - posters, trailers and short clips. Many of those scenes are clearly meant to portray two people falling in love through
longing looks, physical closeness, embraces and quiet moments of tenderness. Instead of seeing the romance the way it was intended, I found myself thinking about one thing only: Ai Mi was just 16-17 when this was filmed. That completely changed how I experienced those scenes.

Perhaps being a parent has something to do with why my reaction is so visceral. I can't look at those scenes without imagining someone her age in that situation. I fully understand that not everyone will have the same
emotional response, but I hope it's equally understandable that for some of us, that response is very real. It isn't something we're performing for the internet.

That doesn't mean I think Ai Mi was uncomfortable (although I do genuinely believe she was exposed to danger irrespective of any measures put in place and of anyone's best behavior, professionalism, or character young minds are developing, impulsive, full of emotions and hormonal changes).

And I want to be clear - I'm not saying I think Minghao behaved inappropriately. Absolutely not.

It doesn't mean I think everyone who watches the drama is supporting exploitation. It simply means I don't think teenagers should be cast as the romantic lead opposite an actor in his late twenties.

Some people here have said that because the romance is innocent or restrained, the concern disappears-well, not for me. I try to understand why they feel that way, but for me it really doesn't. Romance isn't defined
only by sexuality. Emotional intimacy, yearning, longing, physical closeness and falling in love are all part of romantic storytelling. Whether they're portrayed sweetly or passionately doesn't really change why I struggle with the casting.
